Cool. Yeah, I'm taking a night off but will return to it later. I got this receiver from the same place as the "parts-rig" T-4XB: the original owner did a lot of mods to the transmitter and there's an extra knob on the front panel that I believe controls the level of the 50 kc IF signal on a m

Neil, I believe that you may be thinking of the TR7. I forget exactly, but seems that there is an attenuator instead of a low pass filter below 1.5Mhz. Communications Quarterly article from the 70s by Scott Prather discussed this, and I think gave some solutions. 73, Ron WD8SBB --- On Fri, 8

The simple answer is yes, you should be able to transceive either way with any of the 4 separates. The receiver should have only a volt or so of Premixer signal at the INJ jack, the MAIN TUNING fiducial should be lit and the receiver should work with no cables!! The transmitter INJ should be

Either. The only way I've been able to go with this pair is separate. There could be some broken stuff in the receiver - I haven't opened it up yet. The CD came today and gets two thumbs-up! I'm still reading through all the information! Steve Wedge, W1ES/4 "I can't complain, but sometime

I'm assuming I should be able to operate an R-4B with a T-4X transmitter and be able to use either VFO. I haven't pulled the covers off my recently-acquired R-4B but do notice that the PO replaced all the RCA connectors on the rear. I have the correct INJ cable and it works fine with my R-4A

Re: [Drakelist] TR-3 Low power output

George - Decreased output IS a symptom of weak PA tubes. Usually it falls off on the high bands first, and eventually affects the low bands as well. A tube tester is essentially useless in this case, because of the difference in the test conditions as compared to the actual operating conditio

My TR-3 has recently had a decline in output. When tuned for max output on a Bird Power meter, Plate Current is about 300mA, and output is about 115 Watts on 80, 40 and 20 CW tune-up. It used to be able to tune up to 450 mA Plate Current. On an Eico 667 tube tester, all final tubes (12JB6) ap

Neil - There is no 'padding', this is more typical of broadband, solid state receivers. The limitation on the Drake R-4A is a result of the tuning range of the Preselector. This control drives a four section variable L/C network in the Input and Output of the RF Amplifier and in the Input and
