Garey,
Tnx for the good info.
I have a replacement dial that is MUCH clearer than the original so
will try washing it gently and use it I think. The homemade one would
be something to try. It sounds like it would work.
Wonder if a CD label program would work? The kind that prints on the
CD directly?

On the transmitter I was able to Check into ECARS today but with very
low power.

Here is what I am seeing.

If I screw the bias back I see up to 80 watts with the plate meter
pegged hard over.

With the bias set 'properly' I only see power output if I turn the RF
Gain up to where the meter is again pegged to the right. When it hits
the pin I am getting 5 - 7 watts.

When the modulation 'looks' right on the meter I am getting 5-10 watts
pep out but the plate meter is kicking up all the way.

I am hearing anti vox coming out the speaker while in SSB is this
normal? I would think not?

The R4B seems to be working well.

The two VFO are transceiving using either or both with the inj cable connected.

I am going to start 'dusting, cleaning and visual inspection'

A T-4XB with good finals should put out about 130 W in TUNE position on
80, 40 and 20. 120W on 15 and 110 on 10. This is into a good dummy
load, with an accurate wattmeter. These power levels are limited by
ALC, you'll notice that the power increases linearly as you increase the
GAIN, but "flattens out" at about these levels. On CW, more power can
be obtained by further LOADing as ALC is NOT active on CW. Typically
150W on 40M.

If the dial is discolored by UV exposure, there is not much you can do
about it. If it's a nicotine coating, GoJo White Hand Cleaner
_"MIGHT"_ take it off without removing the numbers as well. I've never
tried it though. Another possibility is to use one of the clear discs
found at the top and bottom of stacks of recordable CDs. Scanning your
dial, or another good one, printing it on clear label material and
sticking them together. Again, I've not tried it, but is what I would
try, given the need.

Be sure and let us know of any successes, (or failures!,) you may have.
