With the help of Dieter, DL5RDO and the rest of the group, I successfully
removed the shorting LOAD capacitor, although it did not just “slip” out! I did
have to remove the pwb coil support above the cap by removing the two screws
from the left wall of the unit that hold the coil support solid. The coil does
not lift out but can be moved enough to lift the cap out.

Getting to the front screw’s nut holding down the cap was a little tricky. A
long nosed set of pliers holds the nut while removing its screw. Once out,
looking at the cap showed that it was the front portion of the 2 gang cap that
was shorting (some of the plates were maybe a mil or so away from each other
before they shorted)! By adjusting the front and rear bushings (real easy with
the cap out of the amp), the capacitor now works smoothly and the gaps between
the plates are pretty much the same for both cap sections.

Many thanks!

Roger W5RDW
