Bob -
The first thing to do is get the Carrier Oscillator at least "near" the
correct frequency. If you have a "modern" receiver with digital

gone. It is just a teeny noise on LSB and a very very weak carrier on USB.
Not really usable. It did generate a signal before I did all this.
So did I do good? Or does this rig need a lot more tweaking?

I want to thank all of you for your advice. Even though I followed the
instructions to adjust C6 for no carrier, it is more complicated than that.

There ar ethree adjustkments that you ahev to do to correctly balance the carrier.
They are C6, Carrier frequency trim, R21, carrier balance, and C17 Carrier
balance/phase. You should firest check that the carrier frequency trim is correct
Gary,
Thanks fro the reply,
Ok, that explains the ball bearing unit and I counted the pot at ~10
turns to where I felt the torque change so it seems ok.
I am still confused by the procedure in the manual. On the schematic I
see three adjustable components around the carrier oscillator.
R-21 and
Mike,
The pot has a ball reduction drive and is multiturn. It will slip when it
reaches the limits..this is normal. Tune the T4XC up on 20 meters as an
example, plug in a mic, turn the MIC GAIN fully CCW, and key the mic. Tune
in the 20 meter transmit frequency on another receiver ( or a scope co
Hello to all on the list,
I recently cleaned all of the switches and pots in my T-4XC and as a
result I disturbed the setting of the carrier balance pot (R-21).
I am having some trouble understanding the procedure that is in the manual .
It states to adjust this pot for minimum S meter on another
