just for the sake of completeness:
As you already suspected the updated mesa libraries were not actually
used on my system by mplayer before. I now managed to fix this and
correctly install the updated mesa so that it takes precedence.
Everything seems to work fine now (at least

Hi,
first of all: Thanks a lot for putting effort into this sort of ancient
hardware, I'm really surprised in a very positive way to see open source
UVD support happen on old R600 GPUs. I gave the recently posted patches
a shot an here is my first impression:
