It appears that over time more and more applications get 'infected': KWin and
JetBrains Toolbox now also cannot start anymore.

Out of interest does the issue show up if you use the ebuild? If that

Well, after deleting the caches I couldn't get to the point where everything
crashes since SDDM only shows blank white screen and standard black X11 mouse
pointer instead of welcome screen.
