Summary: radeon.modeset=1 boot option crashes system with ATI
rc410 card producing garbled system logs
           Product: Drivers
           Version: 2.5
          Platform: All
        OS/Version: Linux
              Tree: Mainline
            Status: NEW
          Severity: normal
          Priority: P1
         Component: Video(DRI - non Intel)
        AssignedTo: drivers_video-...@kernel-bugs.osdl.org
        ReportedBy: eumos...@gmail.com
        Regression: No

After the upgrade to Ubuntu karmic 9.10 with 2.6.31-14 kms was pretty stable.
Then with a number of upgrades including 31-14, the radeon.modeset=1 boot
option would eventually freeze the system (with dri=on and the compiz features
enabled). Apparently, this happens when windows are being manipulated (moved,
resized, scrolled etc) Nothing seems to work then, except for the REISUB SysRq
keys which would restart the machine.

A very strange and weird fact is that these crashes either leave no traces in
the system logs or render them unreadable just right when the system hangs. I
will upload the logs in question anyways.

Some (possible) ways to reproduce:
Install or upgrade to Ubuntu karmic 9.10 on Toshiba Satellite L35. Then update
the kernel images. Boot with the radeon.modeset=1 option. This system will hang
eventually , when the session is run for some time and windows are being
manipulated.
