Since upgrading from xorg 6.8.2 to 6.9 (Debian), I've been getting
system lockups when starting the xserver. If dri is commented out in
the module section of xorg.conf, then it works fine. The wierd thing
is that occasionally (say 1/20 attempts) the xserver will start (with
dri enabled). Once

Maybe. Limited testing so far, but here's what happened:
- read your email, edited xorg.conf, restart gdm - it works!
- reboot (no power off), start gdm - it works!
- shutdown (power off), boot,
