we have novice experience and want to use DSpace-CRIS-6.3 in the future.
Therefore, we have done a clean installation, which basically runs without
any problems.
But not all publications are publicly shown, only an Administrator can see
all submissions in a particular community
I initially encountered the same error while I installed DSpace too. But a
big thanks to Mahesh Palamuttath who bailed me out.
To solve this problem you just need to follow this step.
STEP 1.
Execute the command below
update-alternatives --config java
STEP 2.
Kindly select openjdk-8 as default

I did try installing Jruby, and you were correct regarding the command to
do so, it is:
rvm install jruby
However, that wasn't successful yielding ...
Searching for binary rubies, this might take some time.
No binary rubies available for: ubun
I believe that when I open pdf files that are quite large, 10MB for
example, the file is downloaded, but when the file is not so large it is
rendered in place in the browser. Where is this configured?

I'm testing an upgrade of a DSpace 5.8 instance to DSpace 6.3 and one of
the first things I notice is that Discovery indexing is about three or four
times slower than it was before. On the same hardware, my repository with
~85,000 items takes 30 minutes to index with DSpace 5 and three
