Hi Tom
Switch to postgreSQL user, usually "postgres" before issuing psql command.
Avoid running this as root.

Dear DSpace Techies
We have been using DSpace password auth with DSpace 6.x.
Now that we are moving to DSpace 7.x, we plan to switch auth to ldap. Users who
were using password auth have publications they submitted and some other
workflows tasks that are pending.
When we switch to ldap auth,

I am still on DSpace 5.x and leveraging on oai interface to sync DSpace

When I configure my repository oai profile in the OCLC Gateway, upon refreshing
collection list, the generated list contains communities, sub-communities and

It's not my repository that I'm harvesting.

Hi Sean
Why not combine "in place" and then harvest?
By either playing around with underlying parent-child tables or batch metadata
editing tool.
Thank you

Dear Dspace Community
I am still on Dspace 6.3 and my handle server is failing to start.
All I get from the handle error log is:

Great stuff.
You may want to zero in on why it stopped.
Perhaps add more memory, connection pool - optimization

Hi Tom
Have you checked if tomcat is running?
I am assuming your setup includes tomcat, Apache2 and some connector handling
the communication between the two (2).
To check on tomcat, try the following on the prompt.
#ps -e|grep java
Or
#netstat -tlpn|grep java

Hi Bryan
Try to adjust your "authentication.cfg" to the following. So, you have only one
"plugin.sequence.org.dspace.authenticate.AuthenticationMethod" parameter. I
have this working on ver 6.3. You have a double parameter in your case so I am
not sure if DSpace considers the last entry only.
Hi Bryan
Would you mind indicating DSpace version you are on? Sorry if I failed to pick
this up.
Another pointer, are your LDAP settings working with any other system outside
DSpace?
Have you proved that those parameters actually work? There are free tools to
test this.

Hi Jeff
Are you able to view statistics when logged in?
Kindly advise on version of DSpace you are on.

Dear DSpace Community
We do have two(2) separate LDAP servers for different user categories.
May you provide pointers on how I hook up two (2) separate LDAP servers. I
notice DSpace does make provision for one (1) out of the box.
I am still on DSpace 6.3.
Thanking you in anticipation

Dear Dspace Tech
We are currently running Dspace 5.6 and intend to switch to the latest stable
release of Dspace-Cris.
What is the best upgrade path to follow in preparation for the switch? Should I
first upgrade to Dspace 6.x and then switch?
Thanking you in anticipation

Dear Dspace Community
My server is unning out of storage space and just established the tomcat log is
almost 100GB.
Is it safe to delete the "catalina.out" log file or its used to generate stats,
etc.
Kindly advise on how I avoid storage space consumption by tomcat logs.
Thank you

Dear Dspace Tech
I intend to migrate old Dspace database (1.8 schema) to Dspace 6.0. I do have

Dear Techies
Can I perform an express upgrade from 1.8 to 5? If so, please point me to any
online documentation that guides on the procedure.
I am also considering doing a server migration to a virtual environment so I
kill 2 birds with one stone. Any docs on this would also be appreciated.
