Not quite sure about Windows Server, but the trickiest issue I've found with
handle server is to make sure the ports are open on your network firewall.

Correct! Sorry, I realized I wasn't clear there. You'd have to copy
over *all* of the following to the Linux box:
* Entire source of [dspace] (the install directory), including all
configs, assetstore directory, etc.
* The Webapps (which are also under [dspace]/webapps)

Yes, you should be able to use the Windows build and publish it through
Linux. However, you need to obviously make sure the Linux machine has
all the necessary prerequisites: Java, Tomcat, etc. Obviously, the
Linux machine may not need Maven or Ant, unless you wanted to rebuild
