Greetings,

We are running version 1.4.2 and I am trying to see if there is a way to
overlay just the metadata of a record and leave the PDF file intact.
What I have are records that have now been fully cataloged and I need to
overwrite the metadata of the record with this new dublin_core.xml file,
but the PDF has not changed at all. So I was hoping that there was some
way that I could do this without having to have the PDF file again and
make it part of the import.

What I have found is if I run the "itemimport" command with the replace
option it appears to either need the PDF file as part of the contents
file and load or it overwrites the metadata and removes the PDF file. So
I get a new metadata record, but if the contents file is empty it does
purges that PDF that was attached to the record. I was going to do
another test and see if I just had the name of the PDF file in the
contents file if it would care that the PDF was not there, but then that
seemed like it would not work either in the way I understand the
command.

So I thought I would ask and see if there is some other method for doing
this that I could use or perhaps a trigger to the command to make it do
what I want. The only other way I could think of to do it would be to
export all of the records beforehand, which would create the files in
the structure they need, and then right my script to just go in and copy
the new dublin core file over top of the existing one and then run the
replace. That just seemed a little cumbersome to me as far as the number
of steps and extra time, so I thought I would check here first.

Thanks,
