Hi,

I completed the Unix installation instructions for Dspace (section 3.2.3 in
http://www.dspace.org/1_5_1Documentation/ch03.html#N105CA) successfully
until step 5.

For step 6, I changed directory to [dspace source]/dspace and typed

mvn package

The build failed with the following error messages:

-------------------------------

[INFO] [compiler:compile]

[INFO] Compiling 63 source files to /

[INFO] javac: directory not found:

asses

---------------------------------

Has anyone had similar problem or can provide some insight into what might
be causing this error?

Thanks,

deb

I looked through the website of University of Minho (
https://repositorium.sdum.uminho.pt/) and they are using Dspace version
1.5.1. They do have the statistics add-on module implemented on the DSpace
version 1.5.1 (
https://repositorium.sdum.uminho.pt/stats?level=general&type=access&page=downviews-series).

Also, the DSpace newsletter of September 2008 says that "*There are two
significant changes in 1.5.1: (1) Both the JSPUI and XMLUI (Manakin)
interfaces are compatible with the Minho statistics package for data
capture. When using XMLUI, a
JSPUI<http://wiki.dspace.org/index.php//StatisticsAddOn>will be needed
to view the stats."
* (
http://www.dspace.org/index.php/DSpace-Newsletter/NewSpace-September-2008.html
)

These facts made me hope that the latest version of University of Minho
statistics 2.0 is perhaps compatible with DSpace version 1.5.1. However, I
have not been able to install it yet because their documentation is not
according to DSpace 1.5.1.

Anyone has more information about this?

It might be helpful to know the precise versions of the software
you're using. Are you setting up DSpace 1.4, which is now somewhat
old, or 1.4.2, the latest on the 1.4 branch?

The error text suggests that you are using a very recent PostgreSQL.
Pg 8.3 removes some default type casting that older versions did.

There may be some sort of mismatch between the JDBC2 driver and a
recent Pg.

Here we're using PostgreSQL 8.0.8 (which I'd like to upgrade, but my
distro. is stuck at 8.0) and the JDBC3 driver 8.1-404 with DSpace
1.4.1, 1.4.2, and 1.5.1.

Does anyone know if any work is going on regarding federating a number
of DSpace instances so that the group could be considered as a single
DSpace instance for searching say. My use case has a number of DSpace
instances that are operated and maintained as individual instances.
When a user wishes to search for some information, then the search is
performed across all instances, and returns links to where the info
was found on the individual instance.

We have that use case here, John -- we are implementing separate DSpace
instances for our 23 campuses, but we also need a separate interface that can
search them all.

We're just going to harvest the data using OAI-PMH. I'm sure you've thought of
that, too.

I have problems with DSpace 1.5.1 and scandinavian characters. There are three
problems I've been trying to solve and I cannot solve all of these at the same
time

1. Search name with scandinavian character

2. Browse to name with scandinavian character

3. Submit item / edit item metadata with scandinavian character

Below are changes I have made to DSpace. With these changes first two issues
are working, but submission don't (It works, but scand. characters gets messed
up). If I take these away, submission works right, but browsing and/or
searching breaks.

I have been trying different combinations with these but I haven't find any
that solves all three issues. What should I try next?
