1) using SQL (this is for Postgres):
SELECT count(1) FROM item WHERE in_archive = 't';
2) using Solr (run this from the DSpace machine or check [1] how to
enable remote access to Solr):
curl http://localhost:8080/solr/search/select/?q=*:*rows=0;
