Around 6 or so, I was able to contact NI6IW via Reflector 1C through the
W8RNL system here in Hamilton, OH.

I believe this was the San Diego group's first DSTAR and HF special
event operation. I am sure the group will adapt for future operations.
I am glad to see December 7 commemorated lest history be forgotten.

To be fair, the first operator did state on a number of occasions that
information was not being
displayed on the radio possibly because of a miss configured radio. I don't
know if that condition
continued through out the event but that was the situation in the events
beginning moments.

Are we sure he was using a dongle? Quick key doesn't always display the data
info on a radio screen. If multiple stations were keying at one time then
maybe none of them got through.

I served on the USS Midway from 84 to 87 in VAW-115, and checked in on

There were many stations checking in on Reflector 12 and 14.32650USB and
the event sure looked to be a success. One of the folks checking in was
N5OOH, Ray who served aboard CV-6 during WWII. Ray is 83 years old and
enjoys both DSTAR and HF Phone.
