Or as someone else pointed out - the problem isn't at the YYZ receiver end
of the path.
I suspect. (only suspect.) that YYZ needs more front-end filtering on the
UHF receiver. just the way it sounds from here.

An amplifier from that time period may not switch fast enough. You
will probably be heard on the local repeater, but once you try to do
call sign routing or something that depends on a good header, it may
fail. A gain antenna will probably get you better results, if you
have a choice. If
