Can I have an "It depends on the situation" box? I don't believe you can definitively say that D-STAR will perform better or worse than analog on the whole. I belive it will be dependent on the situation, hence my view that D-STAR is here, we should have it as one of many tools in the toolbox. :) I have seen in general use where D-STAR performs much better than analog, typically fixed point to point paths, and I have also seen D-STAR totally outclassed by analog systems (try operating both mobile from inside a train, or from the wrong side of a hill and see which gets the best results). Of course, there's also the issue of having access to slow data, which can be useful for some situations.
