John If properly matched, an external amp shouldn't make your handheld any hotter than an antenna connection with a similar match. If the amp has its own power supply it shouldn't drain your handheld battery any faster either. The 91AD does get very hot in the 5W position so if you can u

Hi John, You also need to keep in mind that if you run an amp with any HT it will drain the battery very easy. It will also cause the radio to heat up much faster as well. I used a 30w amp on a 220 MHz years ago and learned the hard way on that. The best thing to do is to get a mobile if y
