Regarding to use a cavity duplexer vs split antennas, and or a combination of filters / cavities - testing.
For testing just use my simple as falling off a log discriminator tap / ptt mod with an isolated tee in the RX leg and an analog signal generator. http://www.bosshardradio.com/dstarrepeatertesting/ Compare to testing a T1 stream - you don't have to break out AF channels to detect errors - in reverse - you don't have to decode DV to detect receiver desensitization.
