I tried this a couple of weeks ago, without success. I've been playing also playing around with IRLP and EchoLink for the past week and hadn't tried again since then.
Today I decided to buy a base antenna and try D-Star again, this time from home. I was testing the antenna installation with my handheld radio (IC-92AD), when I received a RX from JI1BQW :-) (Kay). I set my ur field to his repeater and made the call. To my surprise, he came back and I completed my first international D-Star connection, by radio. Very cool. The antenna installation was just temporary. I had it on a tripod on my balcony. It was below roof level and not nearly high enough. Perhaps tomorrow I'll put up a 10' mast and stick it on the roof. Should be much better reception from there. Then it's off to get an IC-2820 :-) and I'll be D-Star connected from my home. DV Dongle is nice but I prefer radio when I have the option. Thanksk Kay for helping me test my antenna. :-) Mike
