Hi Artie, There is a fundamental difference between D-STAR and the VOIP systems like Echolink, IRLP, WIRES, AllStar/Tiara, ... On those other systems, the approach is to take analog audio from a receiver, and with a computer/soundcard, convert that audio into a digital format for transmission

Not really. A DSTAR repeaters controller need to be routed from an IP address that is pretty static (as in not changing for months at a time). More importantly, the response time to the trust server has to be pretty quick with at least a very solid and consistent 1M (and that is light) connect
