I have disected a BTI Type 4 and have it open now. It has the same 10,
4/5ths A cells as a Type 2 battery, only they are arranged in two rows
of five, instead of the 2-6-2 configuration of the Type 2. Remember, the
BTI Type 4 pack is deeper than the Apple Types 1 through 3. The only
markings I can find on the cells are "Japan AGH" so I can't tell what
the amperage is.

One curious feature of the BTI pack is the wooden popcicle stick spacers
on either side of the batteries! When you remove the three sticks on
each side there is room to use full A size batteries as they are only 7
mm longer. I have only been able to find Panasonic NiMH cells from
Digi-Key. The 4/5th A cells are rated at 1700 mAh while the full A cells
are rated at 2100 mAh. Anyone know a reliable source for for the Sanyo
cells or know if they are superior to the Panasonic cells?

Also, anyone have any ideas on how to crack a Poverbook 500 series
battery? That's my next project.
