I AM using FWB CD-ROM Toolkit WITH MY PANASONIC drive
i got the software on closeout from Small Dog or Mac resq for about $3
it is not the most recent version... but what else we are using is?
this software disables the apple cd driver ..
I have some flakeyness but think it may be drive and cables... still
playing with it
I use 8.6 on the 2400c "for now"

on the Macgurus.com site they sell CDROM and Harddisk toolkit softs
and recommend using both instead of the apple drivers for the faster
scsi subsystems they are selling.
very good forums for technical issues over there.
