One of my colleagues likes his 2400, but contemplates upgrading. He's
having some problems with PowerPoint Presentations. I suspect someone on
the list knows how he can solve them without changing machines--
(a) Pictures display slowly (microscope images and such)
(b) Editing is sluggish (PowerPoint & Word 98, Word 5.1 is fine)
Would a particular a video display card help with (a)? At research meetings
there's a related problem: a need to quickly standup, hookup, and deliver
your talk. A good video card/driver would tolerate being started up
disconnected from any projector or monitor, being put into sleep mode to
conserve power while colleagues talk, being connected to a projector in
sleep mode, starting up from sleep and mirroring the 2400 screen without
any software or hardware adjustments. There's nothing quite like waiting
for a reboot in front of a couple hundred people just to get your
notebook's video output to shake hands with a video projector. Fiddling
with control panels in front of an audience, all of whom are watching an
out of sync image project, is almost as bad.
Speeding up Office 98 may be tough without a hardware upgrade. Any
software settings, tips, or tricks.
