I am actually still using Kaboom! on my "other" machine, a Mac 8600 with Sonnet G3/400
upgrade card
and Mac OS 9.0.4. Works a treat. It was Zonkers, also from Nova Developments that was
not supported
past OS 8.6 - what a pity.

part of my
standard software package, I loaded Kaboom! to give sounds to different functions on
the desktop
(similar to Platinum sounds with the iMac). I now have a fully functional sound output.

Trash the sound and Finer pererences. Shutdown. Startup. Zap the PRAM
a few times (Apple+Option+P+R) and see if that works. Otherwise, try
reinstalling the system software.
Because the ime is fine on boot, that points to a software problem.
