Especially after hearing about that Finder-dragging trick. I'm shocked 
the Mac won't protect itself from a move like that. Is there a reason
for that design?

Well, the trick is to drag it from your cerebrum into your cerebellum.
Or is it the other way around, i forget.   [0]:^'
Me, I sort of say it as I'm punching it:
command Q_uit
command W_indow
command E_xport
command R_eveal original
command T_ext
command Y_ank back
etc...
