OK,... this explains why you could shrink it to 6MB! 
Only 1-2min and still 168MB... that's really not very 
much compressed! ;-)

In that case I wouldn't convert it to mpeg2, but to mpeg4 (xvid) with mp3 
sound... gives about a factor 2 smaller size with the same quality! 

Or even h264 (mpeg4/avc... the codec used for HDTV) with aac in mp4-container?
Would give another factor in size fr same quality! ;-)
Though ffmpeg needs a lot of tweaking (2-3 lines of options/parameters, 
changing with every snapshot... like in the early lame/mp3-days) to get 
propper results... :-(
