mid-1980s, but still need one for my favorite band -- 18 mHz. I'll be
in there looking. My amp hasn't been hooked up for over 2 years, and I
don't intend to do so now (I'll get it in line for P5, though).

How? We had a small group of maybe 6 guys, and a list of countries
(not BAND countries, just "new ones overall"). We had a 2M simplex
freq that we all listened to, and called each other there.

The "BEST" dx-pedition is one to a place I need for an all-time "any
band new one" where the ops actually (1) hear me and (2) qsl.

Your own (RR) ISP will ping you dozens of times a day to check if you
are running a commercial node or an FTP or some other prohibited type
of server. Subtract those "attacks" and there wont be "THAT" many
(but there still will be plenty) -- especially from Asia!

In my very first CW qso, in 1983, with shaky hand and nerves of
Jell-o, I was met with a QLF and then silence.
And now, except for working a very short DX QSO, I won't go near the mode.
