I worked AN8AH on 40M in the CQWPX contest and assumed it to be American
Samoa. My logging program says it is Canary Is. Does anyone know the

Thank you Steve for bringing this to and end. I had been away from the
computer for a while and had no idea that I had opened the flood gates.
One benefit from this is that I became aware of the Prefix Cross
Reference List in the ARRL DXCC Countries List. Didn't know that was
there. My thanks to t
trust your software. samoa is only ah8, wh8, kh8. AN is a spanish prefix.

With access to the net to post the original question, there had to be access to
research it before his display of ignroance. It's a sad comment on the current
testing procedures that an American amateur doesn't even know what his own
nation's prefixes are.

No, his logging program had it correct. AN8 (or EA8) is the Canary
Islands as he said it was. BTW, the ITU prefix allocations are listed
in the DXCC rules publication is

publicly: Maybe they should have a section on class in the amateur exams.

What I'm curious about is who AN8AH really is? I'd thought at first it was
a contest prefix for EA8AH... but EA8AH is QRV...

EA8AH is operated by OH1MA single band 15m in WPX
AN8AH is operated by OH1RY single band 40m in WPX
Both operate from the same station/site.
This is the same deal as when they forexample in Finland
use OG instead of OH, i e OH2BH uses OG2BH, in Spain
they have used the AN prefix for many many year
