Cocos Island DXPedition: TI9M
Radio Club of Costa Rica opposes expedition to TI9.

Radio Club of Costa Rica opposes the DXPedition planned from february 17 to march 2, 2002 to Cocos Island, due to the irregular proceedings under which the callsigns for the operation were obtained. At no time was RCCR consulted on the operation, which would have been standard protocol, either by the dxpedition itself of by the Office of Radio Control (TI0CNR). Currently the DXPedition's original callsign, TI9M, is valid only for one operator (TI2HMG), and may operate with a maximum of 250W and 10 and 15 meter band restrictions. Under such irregular operating circumstances, we cannot support this expedition and will continue to oppose it as long as necessary in order to maintain Cocos Island's reputation as an amateur radio landmark of international recognition.
