Seems to be where it was introduced. (Before tap detection was ever
apart of compiz).

Resolved! I've installed unity-scope-github which silently removed
unity-scope-home (because I've installed it via Software Center). After
reinstalling unity-scople-home (and uninstalling unity-scope-github)
everything is back in the Launcher!

I have this problem, but I've also seen the UI freezing or locking up
(most of the time) when you minimize applications. If you press Alt +
Ctrl + Del and get the shutdown diag, it goes back to normal.
I wonder if it's part of the same bug or a different one?

I have tried the solution from comment #6 and it works. It would be
helpful to understand why this works. Digging through the comments it
looks like mesa uses not the GPU acceleration when the variable is not
set. This looks like a design error in mesa. Maybe mesa developers
should be asked about
@manny that is a different bug.

I'm having the same problem. I tried to reset the launcher by
disabling autohide then re-enabling it, but it didn't help. Only thing
that works for me is hitting the Super key which my Dell mistakenly
labled with the Windows logo.

Same here, but do not have mplayer installed.
I get this behaviour about 4 out of 10 times when waking up from
suspend, after switching to Vt1 and back I see the pointer again. Other
Vt's does not help? Noticed you use a signed kernel. I see this both in
CSM and Secure Boot mode.
