Haven't rebooted again though, so I don't know if it's permanent.

described by K.T.:

very slow
most keyboard shortcuts not working e.g. Crtrl-Alt-L
Desktop right click menu works.
GUI apps can be launched, and work but those that are Unity menu integrated

This will likely be my last contribution post. I am no longer giving
unity a try. Even if parts of it weren't acting buggy on my setup, the
very premise of UI evolution is to remove clicks and mouse strokes.
Some of Unity does that other parts like the global menu adds extra
clicks and mouse

I've never had 100% CPU usage, only some kind memory leak that unity-
panel-service slowly uses more and more memory. After the new packages
the situation is better, but still, memory usage of unity-panel-service
is increasing over the time needs to be killed at some point to allow to
be re-loaded
I can confirm that it is better now, but certainly not perfect. It
sometimes happens that the unity-panel-service starts to leak again, and
from time to time it consumes a lot of CPU power, though not 100%. I'm
of course on the 'proposed' update channel.

Well, it's not actually released upstream in Unity yet (yeah, I know,
weird right? Ubuntu does rolling releases of certain projects even
though the upstreams do not, which can get hellaconfused for folks not
intimately involved, and also for some who _are_ intimately involved).
No biggie, though.

I too have now hibernate in the desktop session without killing any

I still have this issue in 13.10.
It's not mentioned here, but there is another significant usability
issue with the non-overlay scrollbars. When you click on an area
above/below the scroller widget, it jumps to that location in the
document instead of scrolling up/down by one page.
