Yee haw, I don't know how this problem was solved after all, but after
updating to 15.04 all applications started through keyboard shortcuts
become active (they appear in the foreground with keyboard focus).

Xcursor*size: 48
to /etc/X11/Xresources/x11-common
fixes it for me (48 here is the base size, 24, doubled).

Can't middle or right click on bookmarks to open in new tab
This is still present in 15.04 just installed and ran updates, copying
from ext4 to ext4.
The copy status window did show until hidden by selecting Show Desktop
in the switcher and then nothing would bring it back, status bar was
showing on the files icon in the launcher but right clicking and
Judging by the number of different architectures affected, I speculate
that bug occurs on a specific class of hardware (specific set of
motherboard chipsets?)
I have had this same (or similar?) issue plaguing two of my desktop
