Note that it's 'appmenu-qt5', not 'app-menu-qt5'. In 16.10, appmenu-qt5
is no longer installed by default as its functionality was replaced by
better upstream implementation (even if still doesn't fix this
particular bug).
For 16.04, a fix in appmenu-qt5 would still be welcome too.

Thank you! I've pushed a new build to silo 034. I also realize my Qt 5.6
testing involved Unity 8 on phone and desktop, and smoketesting Plasma,
LXQt etc but not really checking the appmenu functionality.

Ok the crash goes away indeed with a rebuild, thanks! That should be
fine.
Can you elaborate a bit how the global menus would be supposed to be
working with these patches when running Qt applications under Unity 7
environment? I can actually see that for whatever reason current yakkety

No change in your PPA it seems.
Meanwhile, silo 34 would have the build that does pass those tests and
skips the printer related tests.
However, as reported on IRC, transmission-qt crashes on yakkety on startup when
using the silo, if not removing appmenu-qt5. Here's the backtrace:

Jeffrey, you're correct regarding metacity if the same problem is seen
outside of unity-2d, so the bug should be valid for trusty even though
there are now fewer environments using it.
I think ideally metacity would be in universe, but it's still depended
