I still have the same bug even though I updated unity.
Launcher is on the right side monitor, icons stop working after one
click, right click still works.

Any chance this will be available upstream anytime soon? It's actually a
huge pain for a package that doesn't tend to be updated in between
Ubuntu point releases...

Hi Alex,
A version of Unity with this fix should be trusty-proposed right now.
Thanks!

Couldn't wait for tomorrow. I was just so excited! ;-)
I can confirm it does appear to be working as expected now, yes.
Confirmed also it stays fixed after logging out and logging into a fresh
session after making the config change. So my preferred config of the
launcher on the middle display
Thanks Alex,
That is exactly the setup... Have laptop and monitor for extended
desktop, with monitor as primary and on RIGHT-SIDE. The launcher is on
the primary monitor(right-side), and encounters the problem. Sorry, I
did not think to experiment with putting the Launcher on the laptop...

@Rachel what graphics chipset/card are you running? I know that someone with
nvidia graphics is unable to replicate the problem. You can run
lspci
in a terminal to see, it should have a line something like the one below, which
shows that I have Intel graphics

This was observed with both a RadeonHD 7750 and Intel HD4600; both using
stock opensource drivers/mesa et al. Two separate machines, btw. I'm
afraid I sold my nVidia card that I used to use, but the fact those
can't drive more than 2 monitors at once means I wouldn't have chosen
the configuration

I am seeing this too after upgrading to 14.04, for example click on Files,
close the window, and clicking on Files then does nothing. Right click Open

Seems to be a rather serious bug, I wonder why more are not seeing it. Perhaps
it is an upgrade issue.

Can you confirm my finding of my last comment, that is:
This happens when the launcher is only on one display of a multi-display
desktop, and when that isn't the left-most display?

Yes, well spotted, for me it only happens when the launcher is on the
right hand display of a pair. That explains why it is not seen by more
users.
Also it is not to do with having upgraded from 13.10 as I also see it
with a separate install of 14.04 on a different partition on the same
machine
OK, I think I found out what this is about. Can reliably repeat it now.
It's about having multiple monitors. I have three. This problem occurs
if I set the launcher placement to be anything other than All Displays
or the leftmost display.
(Confirmed by swapping displays around in the display
In case anyone ever looks at this, I thought I'd describe how to repeat
the issue more simply, though it was implied in the above.
As default, there is a launcher icon for Files at the top of the
launcher, under the Ubuntu logo.
Click on it once. Nautilus launches showing the home folder.
Close
This seems to only affect upgrades from Saucy - even if the Saucy
install itself was unmodified from default (as in the case on this
machine, installed only briefly to upgrade to Trusty with).
Clearing all likely gnome/unity config has also cleared this problem.
