If you can't Ctrl+Alt+F1 to move to tty1, then it's not an unity bug.
But it seems a resume issue instead.

FYI, I did look at https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/1301125,
however in that bug the unity freeze occurs only after the system is
locked after idle time. In my case, the unity freeze after manually
suspending and then resuming from freeze after 10-15 minutes.
