org.compiz.core:/org/compiz/profiles/unity/plugins/core/ active-plugins` on a
terminal, if 'opengl' and 'unityshell' are missing it's probably it

Deleting all the hidden files and folders in the home directory was
overkill. Which specific hidden file/folders would have been more
targeted? I'd like to take note of this for future reference.

The reason the reinstall didn't fix the issue is because I have the
/home folder on a separate partition and upon logging in for the first
time, Unity was reading the hidden files in the user's home directory.
Apparently, after the final release, there were some previously created
