It's weird that you only get this on few apps, but it looks that the UBUNTU_MENUPROXY env variable is not exported there, try to launch the terminal with UBUNTU_MENUPROXY=1 gnome-terminal --disable-factory Will it work? Also, what you get doing: gsettings list-recursively
