The #7 workaround for Xubuntu 14.10 works for me.
A few weeks ago I added a new user to Xubuntu, and that user didn't get
the mouse corruption at all. But they do now - for the past few days.
Unfortunately I'm not sure what caused the change, or exactly when it
happened.

I'm facing the same problem ... It seems only drag-mouse-cursor is
affected.
Changing resolution as suggested above doesn't work for working with
gmaps. The cursor is always corrupted ...
First time it happened was after inserting two Radeon HD5450 graphics
adapters and xrandr-ing resolutions for
Workaround in Xubuntu 14.10:
1. Open "Display" in "Settings Manager".
2. Change resolution to some other value and click "Apply".
2. Change back to previous resolution and click "Apply".

Judging by the photo of the corrupted cursor, I think I have the same
problem, and it occurs when I drag and drop a file - the cursor becomes
corrupted after the drop. However, I'm using Xubuntu 14.10 (upgraded
from 14.04).
