I agree, Mel, even if it looks like Windows Update since a few months has been modified to withhold the actual installation until you want to switch off yourself. You never know! It took several days to sort out the servers at Skype after that a great number of connected PCs made an update restar

It might be a good time to mention another security issue. I strongly recommend that you DON'T configure windows to install security updates automatically. The safest solution is to configure Windows to download the fixes and notify you. Otherwise, Windows can restart the machine unexpectedly (

Just a note to thank the many people who responded to my question. I received many uselful ideas. Apparently there are several FREE backup programs that work quite well. I ended up using a memory stick (USB flashdrive) that I had with Synchback, a free and easy to use program. 73, Howard..K2H
