Subject: RE: [Dx4win] Saving the log

I believe you somehow saved your .dxl log file in a different location other
than the DX4WIN/SAVE folder. This can happen if you tell it to save the log in
another location for back up purposes and by doing so change to .dxl file
location. The program will go to that location until you reset it to look for
the dxl in the save folder. This happened to me once.

When I want to do back up my dxl file I do this. Under FILE drop down to SAVE
AS (not SAVE) and the SAVE folder window will open. Right click on your .dxl
file. A drop down menu will open. Select SEND TO. Then send a copy of the file
to any of the drives that will be shown on the attached window, including any
thumb drive you might be using. I use this method to do a back up of the .dxl
file to an external HD or a thumb drive. Doing it this way you are not changing
where DX4WIN will look for the .dxl file when you start up the program.

I ALWAYS do a .dxl back up to my ext HD before I make any major changes to
DX4WIN such as updates, loading a contest ADIF/dxl file, LoTW
downloads/uploads, etc. Then if I had a screw up I can revert to the backup
file and start over.

Subject: [Dx4win] Saving the log

I have version 8.05. I cannot find <callsign>.dxl anywhere on my computer. I
have done a search for it and its not there.
I learned to use a thumb drive in the Secondary Backup Directory feature in
DX4WIN preferences. My question is I have noticed that my .adi and .dxl file
is saved in my Secondary Backup but not my DX4WIN program. If I look in
c:/DX4W805/save I see the "Sample" log but not my "N4EPD" log and no n4epd.dxl
or n4epd.~xl file. If I look in my Secondary Backup Directory it is there. Why
is it not being saved in DX4805/ save ?

Thanks,
Mike, N4EPD
