To piggy-back off of Jim's great comments, I believe the NORFED Silver and Gold-backed Liberty Dollars offer a great physical alternative to fiat currency. My choice is to use the Digital Gold Currencies in the cyber-arena and Liberty Dollars in day-to-day cash exchanges when at all possible.
