If you believe the writings of Lyndon LaRouche, among others (and
although he is fairly mad his research is very reliable) HSBC is one
of the biggest gangster/organised crime banks in the world. That
said, as far as their customers are concerned this is not necessarily
a bad thing for many people involved in the gold economy.

Of course as they are the local agents for Omnipay, I had the joyous
experience once of having to go and query why a cheque from them I
had deposited hadn't cleared in a timely manner. The bank idiot
claimed that the reason was that it was a foreign bank (it isn't, it
is the HSBC of Australia or something), but was unable to explain why
if it was a foreign cheque I hadn't been charged the foreign cheque
fee or had the mandatory 30 day wait on foreign bank cheques.

Ian: What are you talking about re: my time zone? I have never been
to the US or Western Australia, my time zone should be set (and is as
far as I can tell) to East Coast Australian time.

One more thing for my personal e-gold digest: Funbonds. They seem to
have been disabled now that they are really paying off. What's up
with that!
