Hi: The arguments about e-Gold and PayPal are all interesting. If you look at PayPal, as a bank, then yes folks are right. However, if you look at both e-Gold and PayPal as digital currency companies, then they are in the same business.
The major strength that both offer is the ability to transact immediately. Granted, PayPal does have a chargeback issue. But, they are both instant at the moment of the transaction. This argument is analogous to the Unix vs NT or the Web Design Templates vs hand coding. Unix and hand coding (and e-Gold) is more efficient, and works faster, yada, yada, yada. However from a business point of view, who cares? If I get the job done with NT or a template or PayPal, then I have accomplished what is needed to operate a business. It's like market makers taking of credit cards for e-Gold. Sure there is a big risk. Yet some MMs are smart enough to realize that the rewards far outweigh the risks, especially when they are diligent in their verifications. So, they charge 15-24% if you use a credit card. Which means they can lose 1 in every 4-6 sales due to fraud and still break even. Are they wrong? Nope. Just smart. While I'm not saying I endorse PayPal, I do have to consider them with two of our services, as the amount if business from e-Gold is minimal. And 17 million people can't all be wrong, nor can 28,000 a day join their program. From a business POV it makes sense (even cents).
