I recommend the brilliant Opera version 6.0! There is an advertising pane in the free version, but I do not find it to be a detriment. This is the browser that gives you much greater control over your browsing, in every conceivable way. Especially useful are the multiple document interface (MDI), and single-click toggling between: * showing images, * not showing images, and * showing only images already in the cache. and * web site's style sheet (author mode), and * your style sheet or no style sheet (user mode). I downloaded version 5 including the Java Virtual Machine and then upgraded with a Javaless version 6.0 upgrade (which still uses the Java machine from version 5). Just make sure you get the Java component in the first version you install. A tip that may be useful for some of you, which I have not noticed in the documentation is that you can start it from a shortcut with a command line like D:\Apps\Opera\Opera.exe operaxyz.ini which runs a custom initial settings file in the same directory as the program. The effect of this is that you can have (nearly) any number of customized configurations (including proxy server settings and home page) for use if you travel between different workplaces (Intranets) or networks. :) Internet Explorer (I don't know about Mozilla) only allows one proxy setting per Dial Up Connection, and one proxy setting for when you are going through a Local Area Network. If you frequently connect on different LANs then you need a Location Manager (like in Mac OS 9, at least), or IBM's Access Connections on my ThinkPad (which unfortunately is nowhere near as good as Apple's Location Manager). I tend to float between using IE 6 and Opera 6, but Opera is especially useful when I want to browse faster and smarter without reverting to a Junkbuster proxy or similar.
