This article caught my eye; it's basically about someone who got scammed
by one of the fake escrow sites, but e-gold is mentioned as well:

There's a bit of misinformation in the article, as it was stated that the
victim "sent the money to E-gold".  Of course this isn't how one goes
about obtaining e-gold...  What can I say...  I'm a pedant at heart...
