OK, so I think we were mis-reading some of this. Ok so there were some changes to the e100 driver that went in upstream over the last year or so. I think these were back ported to the later 2.4 kernels but I don't know that for sure. Have you tried a newer 2.4 kernel, like 2.4.37? The eepro1
