In-Reply-To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Hi! I am new at E-mail, so please bear with me. I have one response to these lyrics. I know of no one who leads a painless life, however, some have more pain than others. I hope that in recognizing the pain of others (any living thing or person), we don't conclude that it's "the way things are". So we have pain, conflict, injustice and so on, lets go forward with what we have to give and gain. I guess I'm unclear as to the point of presenting the lyric. I probably missed some of the context? -C. On Mon, 19 Aug 1996, S. I seem to have started a totally irrelevant side-track. I should have sent my enquiry to jason privately. It was just a personal response to the poetry -C. I'm trying to encourage my right brain responses - emotional rather than analytical response. That said I'm all for a bit of balance so I don't mind responding to your anaylsis >I know of no one who leads a painless life, however, some >have more pain than others. I hope that in recognizing the pain of others >(any living thing or person), we don't conclude that it's "the way things >are". I think I responded to the words partly because of my frustration with people around me who are comfortable and self-satisfied and therefore not motivated to give any energy to the social change I believe is necessary. Some of these people are in 'Goddess' and 'Ritual' groups. I have recently read a book, I have lent it to someone so I do not have the reference at the moment but it was called 'Pagan Rituals', which expressed the philosophy behind these growing cults in a way which resonated with me. I am therefore trying some things in my imagination to see how I feel about them. I felt that those words had the feel of an invocation chant for a ritual. I like the way they start by acknowledging that even my comfortable neighbours have pain but take them beyond to an obviously more powerful pain, made obvious by the emotional quality of the words. A complete ritual would have an 'absorption' or 'deepening' stage when the energy released by the invocation is fitted into everyday consciousness and into committment to 'go forward with what we have to give and gain' as you put it.
