The Wiccan answer to this is the Law of Three; Whatever you put 
out shall return to you thrice over.  This does not require a deity, 
only an environment and a society.  If you treat people well, they will 
notice this and respond in kind.  Likewise if you treat them badly.  
The problems we are having in our environment are an example of 
the functioning of this law; our past and present abuses are coming 
back to haunt us.  Chief among these is overpopulation.      Joe
