Dear Ecolog-L, We seek a highly motivated scientist to work on a three year BMBF-funded research project EMSAfrica, in which there is financial support for a 75% position. The research is based in South Africa and the place of work is the Chair of Plant Ecology at the University of Bayreuth, Germany. EMSAfrica is a multi-disciplinary project that aims to enhance capacity to monitor and predict changes in the functioning of Southern African ecosystems. The advertised position will focus on establishing a network for monitoring biome shifts using environmental sensor systems. Parallel to this you will use physiologically based species distribution modelling to predict how climate change will lead to range shifts of species and biomes in South Africa. You will work closely with Prof. Steven Higgins from the University of Bayreuth and Dr Jasper Slingsby from SAEON (South African Environmental Observation Network). Candidates with Masters or Doctoral qualifications in plant ecology (or related fields) and research interests in climate change impacts and in combining field ecology, environmental monitoring and statistical ecology are encouraged to apply.
